A Hit List for Social Media PromotionA Hit List for Social Media Promotion

Asking your speakers to participate in promoting an event is a no-brainer. I've done it many times myself.
But even smarter is providing speakers with a quick hit list of ideas for promoting via social media, providing all the necessary links and other logistics in one, handy e-mail. I love the one we received from MarketingProfs regarding the upcoming Digital Marketing Mixer at which Bulldog President Todd Davison will speak. It's a great template for anyone planning an event with speakers who have terrific networks of their own.
Here's what they suggest. Fast, easy, friendly and all presented in one place so it's light lifting for speakers.

  • Promo code. MarketingProfs starts their note right off the bat by offering speakers a promo code to share with their community.
  • Speaker badge. They provide a widget ready to go for placement right on speakers' sites, and offer to resize it as needed.
  • Twitter activity. MarketingProfs includes an event hashtag and a place to follow the event on Twitter.
  • LinkedIn and Facebook. They urge speakers to post a comment or start a discussion, and give the appropriate URLs for both sites. See ours here.
  • Video. They offer to post video about session topics and benefits. This one does require more work than the others, but it's a great suggestion.
  • E-mail signature link. They suggest putting a link to the event in an e-mail signature. I'm going to be a little heretical here and note that I've never found this to be a very effective tool for promotion, and I've done it with a tracking code, so I'm speaking from data here.
  • Word of mouth. "Talk, blog and talk some more about being a speaker."

I plan to use a version of this for speakers on our events moving forward. What's missing?
